Nobody is forcing you to pick that outfit or the bust slider in xenoblade.
That is not a statement someone should ever say. "But it’s censorship fueled by common sense" Look at how women were portrayed in films when the original Mad Max came out and look at how much they've improved (while still some flawed ones, that will never go away) with this year's Mad Max which practically had a female lead that wasn't really sexualized at all and was amazing. Games will be the same and you'll still get your softcore too.
I mean, there have been pushes in the past to have better female portrayals, better black/latino/etc portrayals in music, film, tv, literature in recent decades in the US and I don't know anyone who would say those forms of media got worse for it.
Its on you how to handle it, vice versa when you dish out that flack on something. If you truly enjoy something there will always be people who dislike it and will give you flack for it. No one wants to take away these nearly-softcore porn games, they just say they think they're not good. You can be for diversity and still anti-censorship. This isn't censorship, Tecmo isn't removing content they're just not localizing it because it won't make them money, despite what they may say. I can't speak for the person who quoted, but I would say I am all for cultural diversity but anti-censorship. Koei Tecmo should show some spine and stand up to these bullies (which is exactly what they are). Its release shouldn't be limited due to the outcry of a vocal few. I'm not saying that Xtreme 3 is a revolutionary game or anything like that, but even a title like it deserves to be distributed to a wider audience and they can then decide if they want to buy it. We can't allow censorship of this sort to continue if we want to play games that challenge us and make us see the world differently. These two games show that the vocal minority are winning the debate, even though many of the people complaining aren't even gamers or would have purchased these titles anyway. That is wrong and stifles creativity.Īs gamers and as people, we should want to have MORE diversity, not less. We live in a world now where people want to not see things that are offensive to them and try to actively block anything of that nature. I'm a proponent of 'censorship is never right' and I don't think anything should be banned or, in this case, limited. While this was a well written article, I have to disagree with some of it.
